Independent contracting & conflicts of interest
Stylists are allowed to perform some hair stylist services as an independent contractor while employed by the salon, but not all types on all clients. Please read this section carefully, since competing independent contracting work will result in your termination.
You can perform photo styling sessions, wedding styling, updos, keratin treatments and makeup services outside the salon as an independent contractor on days off, for any client without the permission of the salon. You can basically perform any service that the salon does not offer.
You cannot perform haircut, hair color, or extension services as an independent contractor on clients that have received one of these services at the salon. Basically you can’t do salon clients at home or at any other salon or venue, including a booth rental spot. This is a conflict of interest and will result in your termination.
You cannot work at another salon, including your own salon or suite and also work at Keith Kristofer. This is a conflict of interest and will result in your termination.
You cannot use the salon for independent contracting work.
You cannot miss scheduled work time to work as an independent contractor, except that you can reschedule one scheduled work day per month to perform contract wedding work if the following conditions are met.
No salon clients are rescheduled without owner/manager approval.
You may be required to make up an equivalent number of hours in the same payroll period or the very next payroll period. The make-up time must be opened on the schedule prior to the salon granting the time off.
You are prohibited from representing the salon while performing services as an independent contractor unless specifically authorized in writing by an owner. This means that when you work on photo shoots, weddings, etc. outside the salon as an independent contractor, you cannot use the salon's name, business cards or any other form of identity that could make the customer think you are performing the work on the salon’s behalf.
The salon will not schedule, take payment for, or engage in any client communication associated with independent contractor work.
