Safety Rules
Never let someone walk out into a dark parking garage alone. At closing time, leave in pairs. Do not leave someone waiting alone in the dark parking garage for a ride. Wait with them or take them somewhere.
The office server must be on at all times for video recording
Never prepare bank deposits in view of the public. Do it behind a closed door. This is primarily for how it looks to guests, but also for safety.
Never carry the zippered bank deposit bag in plain view when leaving to make a deposit. Put it in your purse or hide it under your clothes.
Homeless People in Building or Stairways
Most homeless people around the building are harmless, but not all of them. If there is anyone threatening you or making you uncomfortable, you can call 911.
If there is a homeless person camping in the building, definitely call 911.
Robbery, Burglary, Theft, Vandalism
Robbery - Robbery is a crime against a person and occurs when someone threatens you with violence or uses violence to obtain money or goods. Hopefully this will never happen at Keith Kristofer. If it does, give them everything they ask for and cooperate with their demands. Don’t try to be hero and don’t try to protect anything other than your own safety. Leave the salon if you can and call police from a safe location.
Burglary - Burglary is a crime against property and occurs when someone breaks in and takes things. In the event of a burglary:
Call an owner
Check for video footage of the crime.
Call the Austin Police Department and obtain a copy of their police report.
Make an inventory list of stolen/damaged items and their replacement or repair cost.
Take digital photographs of any damage.
Send the inventory list, the photographs and the police report to our insurance company.
Theft - Theft is when a someone steals something when we’re open. If you suspect someone has stolen something, report it to a manager or owner and we will see if we caught it on videotape.
Customer Theft - If you suspect a guest has stolen something, report it to a manager or owner and we will see if we caught it on videotape. Do not confront a guest about theft. It is better to lose the product than cause a scene that upsets other customers. If the customer has been caught on video, a manager or owner will contact the police department.
Employee Theft - If you know that an employee has stolen something or is planning to steal something, including Trade Secrets or Client Information, you have an obligation to yourself, the salon and the rest of the staff to report it to an owner or manager.
Vandalism is when someone intentionally destroys or damages something. In the event of vandalism:
Call an owner
For managers,
Check for video footage of the crime
Call the Rollingwood police and obtain a copy of the police report
Make an inventory list of damaged items and their repair cost
Take digital photographs of any damage
Send the inventory list, the photographs and the police report to our insurance company
