Assistants
The salon hires assistants with the hope they will stick around for years and develop into talented, productive stylists that continue working with us.
Assistants are provided with hourly pay and top quality education in return for:
Helping the salon run smoothly by completing a number of daily tasks
Helping commissioned stylists produce more revenue than they could without help (holding hair, helping with color, shampooing, doing treatments, etc.)
Bringing income into the salon by finishing clients of commissioned stylists.
Assistants the future of the business and the oil that keeps the salon running. They are vitally important. The salon’s cost to educate an assistant is about $90,000/year. This includes the assistant’s pay, the salary paid to educators and the lost income from missed appointments that educators would have booked if not educating.
Assistants are paid an hourly rate until they are consistently doing enough of their own paying clients that they could make more on commission. When an assistant’s pay would consistently be higher on commission than it is hourly, (we recommend three consecutive paychecks at a minimum), the assistant can request a change to commission pay. Once an assistant switches to commission pay, the change is permanent; they cannot go back. Assistants should discuss changing to commission with a manager to make sure they have taken various factors into consideration, including time of year and seasonal variations in workload.
